Winter changes the solar window. Days are shorter, the sun follows a lower path, weather changes, and obstructions that cleared the panels in summer may block useful light during winter.
The panels have not necessarily developed a problem. The conditions around them changed.
Why does the daily solar window get smaller?
Shorter days give the array fewer hours of sunlight. A lower sun path also changes the angle at which light reaches fixed panels.
Those two changes reduce the time and strength available for daily production. The effect depends on the location, date, panel direction, and tilt.
Can winter create new shading problems?
Yes. A tree line, ridge, building, roof equipment, or nearby vehicle may sit below the summer sun but cross the lower winter path.
Sun Finder can show the sun geometry and panel direction for a place and date. It does not calculate the height of those obstructions. You still need to inspect the site and judge the clear window.
Does cold automatically mean less panel output?
No. Cold weather and weak winter production are not the same thing. The shorter day, lower sun, clouds, snow cover, and obstruction angles can reduce daily energy even when cooler panel temperatures are not the problem.

What happens when snow covers the panels?
Snow on the panel blocks light until enough of the surface is clear again. The effect depends on how much of the array is covered and how the panels are arranged.
